Courses for July 2018
- in an evening! The shave horse is a wonderfully versatile piece of equipment for working in greenwood. It is used to grip the length of wood you are working on and hold it steady to enable you to shape the wood using a draw knife or a spoke shave.
Enjoy a day at the lovely location of the Footprint Building at St Catherine’s near Windermere, making your own charcoal and then using it to create drawings. As well as preparing and baking the wood to make charcoal, learn about the history of the ancient craft of charcoal making in the Windermere area. Discover the subtle marks and soft lines this medium can create as you draw from life, out and about in the woodland.
- We have all felt the lasting benefits of being out in the woods together and the relaxed pace of our time there. The children have made it very clear that they'd like to do it again as would we! I thought that the way you'd set up the facilities there was great; it hit just the right note between home comforts and survival training! We all learnt a lot over the course of the day; from instruction, observation and from being given space and time to try things for ourselves. Thank you.
