Scandinavian Shrink Pot Carving

£75.00

Creating beautiful natural pots from greenwood, using the shrinkage of the tree as it dries out to create a sealed pot.

Working with the natural properties of green wood by hollowing out a section of branch. Carefully carving a base out of dried wood and using a technique so that as the greenwood dries it shrinks to fit the base. Traditionally carved in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, this is an interesting introduction to green wood crafts.

Venue: National Trust Footprint, Patterdale Rd, Windermere, LA23 1NH

9:00am to 5:00pm

Waiting List - If the course date you would like is full, email garethandro@woodmatters.org.uk to go on the waiting list

Dates:

The course will be partly inside the Footprint building and partly outside under a waterproof cover so please bring weather appropriate clothing and wrap up warm.

Please bring a packed lunch. We will provide hot drinks and biscuits.

Just so you are aware this is a physical course involving using carving tools and drawknives. It is suitable for beginners however you will need a certain amount of arm strength for the tool work. It's important to pace yourself throughout the day and rest your arms when you get tired.
