Greenwood Fairs come rain or…well, grey cloud!

5th October 2012

Woodmatters has enjoyed meeting, demonstrating and letting people have a go at greenwood carving at Sizergh Greenwood Fair and Grizedale Forest Discovery Day

A busy day at Sizergh Castle organised by the National Trust full of interesting stalls, demonstrations and workshops to take part in. Woodmatters met lots of interesting people and helped some little ones have their first experience of greenwood carving.

The next day was also great at Grizedale Forest Discovery Day organised by the Forestry Commission, we had a wonderful space in the Yan building which sheltered us from the absolute non-stop torrential rain. This definitely put off the mass numbers of visitors but what lacked in quantity made up in quality. We really enjoyed having the time to show people the basics of spoon and spatula carving using our wide selection of Swedish hand tools.

On both days we had a lot of take up on our tree ID activity with the star prize of ...wait for it... a biscuit ...or a raisin for those on a diet!

Lots of fun had by all, thanks to the National Trust and Grizedale Forestry Commission for putting in the effort to organise two great days.

"There's no doubt that your wonderful attitude along with that of the other contributors made the day-it could have been really grim but everyone was resolutely upbeat and it made such a difference, not least I'm sure, to those hardy visitors who made it up here! Love your spoons (and your kids) and hope we can get you back again next time. Good luck and hope you go from strength to strength." — Kate Jordan Forestry Commission
